Facebook comments coming to the Money & Co. blog

Comments

Later today, the Los Angeles Times' Money & Co. blog is switching to the Facebook comments system, joining a test that latimes.com is blogs running on our Technology, Fabulous Forum and PolitiCal blogs.

Once we flip the switch, you'll only be able to comment on posts using your Facebook account. Comments in the old system will disappear.

All commenters will have the option to post their comments here on their Facebook walls as well, but that's not required.

Why are we making the change?  We want to make our blog commenting system more uniform, more interactive and more timely. Right now, some comments appear immediately, while others wait too long for the approval of a moderator.

The Facebook commenting system deals with those problems, allowing for instant commenting while providing an authentication system no one else can match. And that will promote interaction among readers and cut down on mean-spirited and profane responses.

Let us know what you think of the new system. Comment on this post or send an email to pat.benson@latimes.com
