Theme parks expect new attractions to spur merchandise sales

As a general rule, theme parks try to add new attractions every couple of years to spark interest among longtime fans and draw new visitors. But the attractions also help sell souvenirs.

Over the next year or so, five major theme parks in Southern California plan to launch new attractions, which experts say are expected to boost merchandise sales.

Visitors to the theme parks can expect to find the shelves at the souvenir shops stacked with toys, T-shirts, hats and even Superman capes, among other mementos that debut with the new attractions.
