Retail roundup: JCPenney launches Modern Bride concept; H&M announces eco-friendly line; retail sales

-- JCPenney Co. has launched an exclusive Modern Bride concept in its bridal fine jewelry departments in stores, on jcp.com and on modernbride.com. A collaboration with Conde Nast, the Modern Bride in-store presence features an area set in the back of the department store’s fine jewelry section and includes Modern Bride signage, fixtures, in-case lighting, displays and packaging. It is staffed with associates trained as Modern Bride professionals

Online, customers will find a Modern Bride section within the fine jewelry department, which includes a feature that allows users to add rings to a virtual notebook, where they can compare the rings’ features side by side.

-- This April, fast-fashion retailer H&M is set to introduce a Conscious Collection as part of its focus on sustainability. The collection will feature apparel in shades of white for women, men and children, made from environmentally friendly materials such as organic cotton and recycled polyester. The Conscious Collection will be on sale in all H&M stores beginning April 14.

-- Consumers kept shopping after the holidays despite winter storms through most of the nation: Retail sales rose an impressive 4.2% in January from a year earlier, according to a tally of 28 major chain stores by Thomson Reuters.
