Gold: Trading now at $1,382 per ounce, up 0.1% from Friday. Dow Jones industrial average: Trading now at 11,540.80, down 0.3% from Friday.

Snowed in. New York City is snowed in but some traders are at work and have been spooked by China’s decision to hike interest rates again. Meanwhile, New York venture capitalists plan for an organized snowball fight.

A slow scary week. In the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day many trading firms send in their less experienced traders, making for a history of rocky results.

Fighting for the ultra-wealthy. Two former opponents at Citigroup are now duking it out over the increasingly valuable market in managing assets for the ultra-wealthy.

Another worry for the unemployed. A new study by economists suggests that unemployment may lead to unhealthy eating.
