Southern Californians won’t change vacation plans, poll says

Despite worries about the nation’s economy, most Southern Californians did not alter vacation plans this summer and will not cut back on travel in the next few months, according to a poll by the Auto Club of Southern California.

The online survey of more than 600 Auto Club members found that 84% of Southern Californians traveled as frequently or more often during June and July compared to the same period last year.

The survey also found that 73% said they plan to spend and travel the same or more August through October as last year.

Of those surveyed, 15% said they planned to take vacations between August and October to take advantage of lower costs, while 24% said they plan to travel then because of better weather. Another 21% said they plan to travel in the next three months to avoid the summer crowds.

“We continue to see signs of a slow recovery in travel,” Filomena Andre, the Auto Club’s vice president for travel products and services, said in a statement. “However, while travelers are getting back on the road, they continue to be sensitive about getting the best deals and the most value for their vacation dollars.”
