Restaurants throwing in the towel as customers watch their waistlines and wallets

Between worrying about calories and worrying about money, most people have cut way back on dining out. And that’s had a negative effect on the bottom line at most restaurants. There were 5,200 fewer restaurants in the United States as of March than there were in the same month in 2009, most of them small- to mid-size operations that were not part of big chains.
