Preparing for earnings season. Anticipation is building before companies begin announcing their earnings next week, and there is some hope that good results will lead the market out of its current difficulties. My colleague Tom Petruno weighed in on this in his weekend column.

Wall Street maneuvers. As Congress prepares to pass financial reform with strong limits on proprietary trading, some banks already are making moves to shift these traders into other divisions, where they may escape the new regulations while still doing similar trading, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Democrats and Wall Street. A Washington Post analysis of campaign contribution data shows that donations to Democratic candidates from the New York area, the nation’s financial capital, have fallen by 65% since the last election cycle.
