One of Southern California’s best-known commercial real estate brokers, Harvey Green, announced his pending retirement on Friday.

Green is president and chief executive of Marcus & Millichap Real Estate Investment Services, a post he has held for a decade. Green will retire after he helps select and orient his successor, the company said.

Green joined the company in 1981 and rose through the ranks after opening the firm’s Encino office, where he continued to be based. He was named chief operating officer in 1996 and then president and CEO in 2000, at which time he accelerated the firm’s aggressive national expansion. Green led the Palo Alto company’s growth from 22 offices and 424 agents in 1996 to 76 offices and more than 1,200 agents today.

‘Harvey has set an exceptionally high standard of performance and professionalism and led by example in every way,” said William A. Millichap, the firm’s co-founder and co-chairman.
