Orange County big spenders may find some relief at Costa Mesa’s Best Buy, which recently unveiled a massive in-store showroom for home theater enthusiasts.

The new Magnolia Design Center is the first of its kind within a Best Buy store in Southern California and one of only eight in the nation. It offers home theater options, high-performance audio and video brands and services such as solar solutions, whole-home automation and outdoor electronics, the Minneapolis-based consumer electronics retailer said.

Steve Delp, chief operating officer of Magnolia Audio Video, said in an interview that the company saw good growth opportunity in the design centers and was hoping to bring the showrooms to more Best Buy stores in the future.

‘We’re well positioned to make it through the ups and downs of this past crunch and be able to grow the business at the same time,’ he said.

Costa Mesa’s Magnolia Design Center includes a fully functioning theater, great room and an outdoor patio. Within the space are ‘lifestyle vignettes’ that focus on rooms throughout the home, such as a bedroom with an HDTV that rises out of a dresser with the push of a button and a bathroom with an HDTV built inside a mirror that is invisible until the TV is turned on.
