Rand Corp. promoted Jack Riley to vice president and director of the Santa Monica research firm’s national security research division.

Riley, who started at Rand 11 years ago, has spent the last three as the division’s associate director.

“National security is one of the fields for which Rand is best known for providing nonpartisan, evidence-based public policy analysis,” said Rand President James A. Thomson. “Jack Riley’s deep experience in research leadership across a broad range of policy issues will be especially valuable as he takes on this new assignment.”

At Rand, Riley has worked primarily on domestic and international security issues, including security institutions in the Mideast, Liberia and Afghanistan and security overhaul in airport and rail facilities.
