Tiki torches infuse backyards with a warm, dreamy atmosphere. But some parties apparently got extra hot after replacement fuel containers on some torches started melting.

The California Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of Flame Guards on Clear-Vu Torch Fuel Containers after receiving 35 reports of fuel container malfunctions, one of which led to a minor burn injury. The replacement fuel containers have been found to melt while the torch is lit, posing a fire hazard.

The recalled replacement fuel containers have the letters ‘RC’ stamped on their undersides and were sold at discount, hardware and home improvement stores nationwide from January 2008 through August 2009. Fuel containers that come with the torches are not included in the recall.

Consumers are urged to contact the manufacturer, Lamplight Farms, for free repair kits. The firm can be reached at (866) 671-7988 or at www.lamplight.com.
