The recession continues to drain beer sales, according to a report by Beer Business Daily.

Beer volumes fell 5.5% for the four weeks ending Sept. 6 compared with the same period a year earlier, the publication reported. For the 13-week quarter ended Sept. 6, the volume of beer sales was off 6.3% over a year ago, according to IRI market research data culled by Beer Business Daily.

The trade publication noted that the data doesn’t track what’s sold in bars and restaurants and the volumes in those channels have likely fallen by a greater amount. The complete report on beer sales is here.
