A candlelight vigil is planned tonight in El Monte, Calif., in memory of Agustin Roberto ‘Bobby’ Salcedo, the local school board member and educator who was killed last week while visiting Gomez Palacio, Mexico.

Salcedo, 33, and his wife, Betzy, had traveled to her hometown and were out with friends the night before New Year’s Eve when unknown gunmen entered a bar and forced Salcedo and five other men to leave. All six were found dead on the outskirts of town.

An investigator with a state prosecutor’s office in Mexico over the weekend vowed to get to the bottom of the Salcedo killing.

Times staff writer Tracy Wilkinson spoke with Betzy Salcedo and law enforcement authorities about Bobby Salcedo’s death. To read Wilkinson’s report, click here.

The El Monte vigil is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Mountain View High School.
