L.A. gallery serves Eastside artists and art patrons
East L.A. can't rival the art hubs of Pasadena and Santa Monica, but ChimMaya gallery displays art with distinctly local flavor, writes Catherine Ho.
Outside, strains of Spanish radio flitted through the quiet neighborhood where residents walked their dogs and practiced skateboarding tricks.
But inside ChimMaya, a small corner boutique and rising art gallery nestled along the border of East Los Angeles, Montebello and Monterey Park, more than 60 artists and self-professed "art fans" chatted, shopped and snacked against a backdrop of purple and green walls, lively salsa music and paintings of dancing skeletons.

It's good to read about art and art events. Too many publications have their reporters plugged into the local police channels and only report crime. There is a lot of interest in art and should be reported more often. Thank you for the article. Keep up the good work. And artists, keep on creating!!!
