The biggest boxing match in years will, indeed, take place. Oscar De La Hoya has agreed to a Dec. 6 match with rising superstar Manny Pacquiao, writes Bill Dwyre of the Los Angeles Times.

The official announcement, barring last-minute reversals, will be made in a conference call Thursday morning.

The match, Dwyre writes, is "the grand finale of 35-year-old De La Hoya's unprecedented career as the box-office king in a sport that has survived on his back for more than 10 years without a dominant heavyweight." The bout will be held at the MGM Grand Hotel Garden in Las Vegas. HBO will present the pay-per-view showing.

why should boxing be illegal? seriously noone makes them fight. and 99% of the tiime the sportsmanship shown in boxing is unmatched. two guys can fight ten rounds and then hug at the final bell as a show of respect you dont get that anywhere else

Its gonna be an exciting match, Hoya has the advantage size wise, pacman has it when it comes to speed and power... but it's gonna be the pacman standing after the fight... GO MANNY!!

Me myself can't wait to see the fight... for me this could be history in the making... people don't think this could be possible and now it's coming.. wowowoowowowo

Have you people considered the negative effects of boxing? Teaching violence to our children, and suggesting they participate in literally a brain-damaging sport. Boxing should be ILLEGAL! Thank you.

It will be a great fight but it will not be determined by the fighter's skills but thier conditioning and weight adjustment. A little guy moving up in weight and probably losing a little speed and power vs. an old fighter losing to much weight, stamina and power due to the dramatic weight loss. Oscar still trying to come out of Chavez, Barerra and Moreles' shadows by trying to be accepted as a true Mexican fighter may have bit off more then he can chew by taking this fight. Oscar is using this oppoertunity to gain that spot but maybe digging his own grave. Passed his prime and to far from his weight class Oscar is trying to be that Mexican that defeats the so-called Mexican Assissin (Pacman). Oscar should remain a great retired boxing and Olympic champion of passed years instead of chasing that illusive spot of great Mexican Champions. I see Manny KO's Oscar in the 9th. Speed, Power, Age and weight adjustment being to much for the once great Olympic/Boxing Champ Oscar De laholla.

I'd like to see Pacquiao win BUT i doubt he can de la hoya will be way to big and way too strong for the SuperFeather/Lightweigh .If Pacquiao DOES win i'd like to see him fight in the light welterweight divisions dominant Ricky Hatton which is a more realistic fight than De La Hoya -Pacquiao. My Money is on De La Hoya

pacman has to do a sugar ray leonard (vs. hagler) if he is to survive hoya. don't rule out an upset. pacman by k.o. or unanimous decision.

It would be a great fight between the two, but the match will not be equal eventhogh dela hoya agreed to drop his weight to 147lbs. Imagine 5'-11" vs 5'-6", middle weight vs light weight, veteran's fighter vs less or experience fighter. Its like David and Goliat story fom the bibble but opposite on that Goliat will win. For Pacquiao probably, he doesnt care to get beaten by Dela Hoya. They're both concern about money. I would say the fight will be over or finish at Round 1 or 2
