Immigration debate stoked by "sanctuary" cities, sham marriages
Los Angeles Times Opinion blogger Swati Pandey highlights an interview with Republican presidential candidate John McCain on Bill O'Reilly's show, in which O'Reilly' raises the question of sanctuary cities.
McCain: Obviously, I don't approve or would oppose sanctuary cities, but again, it's a larger problem. And that is our failure to carry out a federal responsibility to enact immigration reform. That means securing our borders first, a temporary-worker program, which we need. It is associated with tamper-proof biometric documents. Anyone who doesn't have that is prosecuted.

Meanwhile, an Orlando Sentinel report investigates how immigration roundups in Florida are exposing sham marriages between illegal immigrants and citizens, enabling foreigners to remain living and working in the United States.
The four-tiered cake the newlyweds were about to cut was plastic. The glasses and plates on the reception table were empty. And the bride wore casual shoes under her wedding gown, writes Jim Leusner.

Why is it so difficult for politicians to consider the obvious? The McCain/Kennedy amnesty legislation failed because, we, the people shouted it down! Its bizarre that the media continues to assert that America's Citizens support Comprehensive reform, when state after state, city after city, town after town, we see elections and legislation being passed that argues the direct opposite. Overwhelmingly, when the direct question is asked, polls indicate that America's Citizens want our borders secured, our immigration laws enforced, and overall immigration numbers curtailed! John McCain still cannot connect with that portion of America's Citizens (of both parties) who are demanding that our laws be enforced! There is no groundswell of support for comprehensive immigration reform, but rather an enormous insistance that our borders be secured, our immigration laws enforced, and that overpopulation through immigration be curtailed. Indeed, it is Senator McCain and his lackeys, the self serving business interests, and the illegal aliens themselves who assert that there is any need for comprehensive reform. Certainly, the overwhelming majority of America's Citizens oppose comprehensive reforms and support, enthusiastically, DHS and ICE efforts to enforce our existing laws!

It is my opinion that every American patriot should ask their local newspaper, what their platform is regarding the illegal immigration epidemic? Each media outlet should be evaluated if they continually publish that everybody who enters America illegally is an 'Immigrant."
This will simply identify the pro-illegal immigration advocates in every newspaper, throughout this nation. Then citizens and legal residents can justify canceling their subscription if they choose.
Then many newspapers address their decision, stating that enforcement of illegal immigrants must be operated on a Federal level?
This is quite untrue:
Our Country’s Constitution, states are bound under the Supremacy Clause to enforce federal immigration laws. The statutory law of the United States is part of state law just as if it were written into state statute. This is why I am so disappointed that many of our cities and police administrators have made the political decision to not enforce the law. There is no legal barrier hindering local police from inquiring about a person’s immigration status and then acting upon the information they gather. This was codified in a 2005, 9 – 0 landmark decision, by the U.S. Supreme Court in Muehler vs. Mena.
However I do agree with the the majority of newspapers and national media, that Federal enforcement is a must..?
The Federal SAVE ACT (4088) will enforce the law, without AMNESTY. That is what parasite employers want. To take away your jobs and replace them with cheap labor: no questions asked.
