Douglas Tompkins: Chilean volcano is 'nothing' compared with climate change threats

May 15, 2008 | 10:23 am

Douglas Tompkins, the former fashion tycoon turned eco-warrior, took time out this week to talk about the volcano erupting in his backyard (see video). But that, says Tompkins, is "nothing compared" with the threats posed by climate change.

Times staffer Patrick J. McDonnell co-filed this post earlier this week about how the erupting volcano has drawn new attention to Tompkins' controversial conservation project in Chile's massive Pumalin Park.
