Temperatures hit upper 80s as warm weather grips region

Temperatures hit the 80s across Southern California on Wednesday as the region basked in summer-like weather.

By Wednesday afternoon, it was 88 degrees in Chatsworth, 86 in Saugus and 80 at Long Beach Airport, the National Weather Service said.

In Orange County, Santa Ana topped out at 83 degrees and Yorba Linda reached 82 degrees. In the Inland Empire, Chino was 82 degrees and Lake Elsinore reached 84.

Farther north, Pismo Beach in San Luis Obispo County reported a high of 80 degrees, and Fillmore in Ventura County hit 85 degrees, according to the weather service.

The warm weather was the result of high pressure that is expected to linger into Friday. Cooler ocean breezes will blow across the region on Saturday and cause temperatures to drop, according to the weather service.

80-degree weather, dry winds expected to hit Southern California

Temperatures across inland areas of Southern California are expected to be in the 80s Wednesday as warm gusty winds blow across the region, forecasters said.

Northeast winds area expected to reach 25 mph, with gusts from 40 to 50 mph, the National Weather Service said.

The warm weather will result from high pressure, which is expected to last at least through Friday and keep temperatures above normal, the weather service said.

The region is expected to experience a cool-down beginning Saturday.

As the weather heats up, Santa Ana winds will return to Southern California on Tuesday night and into Wednesday, the National Weather Service said.

Gusts of about 40 mph were expected in mountains and valleys in Los Angeles and Orange counties and the Inland Empire beginning in the evening, forecasters said.

The winds, coming from the northeast, will help bring warm weather back to L.A., with highs in 60s and 70s on the coast and mid-80s inland Wednesday.

Warm weather is returning to much of Los Angeles, with highs reaching the 70s in inland areas Tuesday and perhaps near 80 on Wednesday.

Beaches will be slightly cooler, staying in the 60s Tuesday and reaching near 70 Wednesday.

But enjoy the warm, sunny weather while it lasts.

By the weekend, maximum temperatures "will drop like a rock with most locations not even getting out of the 60s," the National Weather Service said. Low, cool clouds and fog that hug the coast are expected to return later in the week.

Forecasters issued a wind advisory for Orange County and the Inland Empire for Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, with gusts of up to 45 mph expected in foothills and below passes and canyons.
