"If you're going to spend your money, why not spend it on something that's going to be a lasting memory, something that brings a smile to your face?" Strane said. "Not only tonight, but for weeks to come, months to come. You're definitely going to remember this night!"

In the wake of the water main breaks across Los Angeles, KTLA’s Eric Spillman reports that the Department of Water and Power has identified at least 100 water mains across the city in serious danger of failing -- and, he says, they aren’t necessarily the oldest pipes.
“There’s enough pipe under Los Angeles to go all the way to New York City and back, over 7,000 miles -- and it’s old as I am, most of it. So it’s kind of falling apart,” said David Freeman, interim general manager of the DWP. Some of the pipes under downtown Los Angeles date to 1887, Spillman reports.

"These people make more errors from the get-go, and they forget more of what they learned after time away," said Dr. Steven Cramer, neurology associate professor at UC Irvine. The study, which was published in the journal Cerebral Cortex, says that the gene variation lowers available levels of a protein that boosts memory.
