A man was gunned down and killed this evening in an unincorporated neighborhood near South Los Angeles, authorities said.
The slaying occurred about 6:25 p.m near Normandie Avenue and 104th Street in the Westmont neighborhood, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.
No additional details were available.

A woman who allegedly gunned down another woman on Los Angeles' skid row was arrested today after witnesses chased her into the arms of a police officer, authorities said.
Michelle Cato, 26, ran into the Los Angeles Police Department officer as she tried to escape from the witnesses and the dead woman's son. The officer was across the street from the LAPD's Central Division station when he grabbed Cato, police said.
"This appears to be a cold-blooded shooting," said Lt. Paul Vernon, commander of the station's detective unit. "The suspect shot this woman in full view of the victim's 23-year-old son and dozens of bystanders."
[Updated 10:46 p.m.: The victim was identified as Sheila Zaldana, 46, of South Los Angeles, Vernon said.]
The victim and her son were not residents of skid row, police said.
The witnesses chased the woman south on San Julian and then followed her as she fled westbound on 6th Street. Witnesses directed detectives to a small-caliber gun, which was found on the sidewalk where Cato had fled, according to police.
Cato, who is on parole for a prior narcotics conviction, was booked on suspicion of murder, police said.
Vernon said it was the fifth slaying recorded downtown this year, but added that homicides have dropped dramatically from previous years.
An 18-year-old man was shot and killed while sitting in a car today in the Mid-Wilshire neighborhood, police said.
The victim was in a white Toyota Corolla near the corner of La Brea Avenue and Olympic Boulevard about 2:35 p.m. when someone approached and shot him in the chest, said Officer Karen Rayner of the Los Angeles Police Department. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
The incident is believed to be gang-related, police said.
Two men were shot and killed in separate incidents early
this morning in South Los Angeles, police said.
A man attending his 25th birthday party in the 900 block of East
98th Street was shot multiple times around 2:30 a.m., Los Angeles Police officer Karen Rayner said. The 27-year-old suspect, a friend of the victim’s
girlfriend’s ex-husband, fled the scene. The victim was taken to a local
hospital, where he died.
About an hour and a half later, police responded to a report
of shots fired in the 1200 block of East 115th Street, Rayner said. Officers
discovered a 24-year-old man on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the head.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man in his mid-30s was shot multiple times this morning
while at a gas station in Exposition Park, Los Angeles Police Sgt. Rene Chavez
said.
The victim had pulled over his sedan at a Chevron station
on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Figueroa Street
about 8 a.m. when he was approached by a lone gunman who fired several
times, Chavez said.
One witness reported that the suspect fled south on Figueroa
in a tan minivan; another said the suspect left in the same direction on foot.
The victim was taken to a hospital in critical
condition, Chavez said. It was not known if the incident was gang-related.
L.A. County sheriff's homicide detectives are investigating the fatal shooting of a man in South Pasadena early today.
The shooting occurred in the 1000 block of South Arroyo Drive about 4:15 a.m, a sheriff's deputy said.
[Updated at 9 p.m.: A spokesman for the Sheriff's Department, which is assisting the South Pasadena Police Department with the case, said that just before 5 a.m., a South Pasadena patrol officer saw a car parked on Arroyo Drive, its windows fogged up. The officer checked the car and found the victim in the front passenger seat.]
The victim, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Los Angeles man was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds in the courtyard of a Long Beach apartment complex, police said today.
Detectives are investigating the slaying of Comontray Lenoir, 24, as a gang-related crime, the Long Beach Police Department said.
Lenoir's body was found at the complex in the 2700 block of East 57th Street after officers responded to reports of a shooting about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said. Lenoir had been shot in the torso and upper body and was pronounced dead at the scene.

An argument between two men in South Los Angeles today ended with one shooting the other in the head at about 11:15 a.m., Los Angeles Police Department Officer Gregory Baek said.
The 34-year-old victim was expected to survive, he said.
The 10100 block of South Vermont Avenue, where the incident occurred, was closed to traffic for more than two hours as authorities searched for the suspect.
The victim, whose name was not given, was transported to a hospital in stable condition. The shooting is not believed to be gang-related, Baek said.
Two men were shot and wounded early this morning as police broke up a party in Chatsworth, authorities said.
Los Angeles police officers at the Devonshire station responded to complaints about a party in the 22200 block of Chatsworth Street about 2:30 a.m., Sgt. Andrew Kukla said. As the crowd was dispersed, gunshots were heard.
The officers discovered a man about 20 to 25 years old who had been shot in the leg and a man about 30 years old who suffered a gunshot to his ankle, Officer Gregory Baek said. The men were transported to a hospital in stable condition.
The shooter appeared to have fled the scene, Kukla said.
“As far as I know, nobody really wanted to come forward and point the officers in the direction of an actual suspect,” he said.
A man and a woman were found shot to death early this morning in a Santa Fe Springs parking lot, authorities said.
Two Whittier police officers conducting a traffic stop on Norwalk Boulevard heard gunshots about 2 a.m. and began searching the area, Lt. Carlos Solorza said. They discovered the two victims in the 11500 block of Los Nietos Road, in an industrial neighborhood, but did not see a suspect.
The relationship of the man and the woman was not known, and their names and ages were withheld pending further investigation. They were pronounced dead at the scene, Solorza said.
A Pomona man who led police on a short chase after refusing to pull over for a minor traffic stop is being held in connection with the Sept. 29 shooting death of another man.
Pomona police identified the suspect as Robert Louis Caballero, 32. After refusing the order to stop about 1 a.m. Saturday, police said Caballero led them on a short pursuit into Montclair, where his Dodge Charger struck a light pole. He fled on foot but soon surrendered. Police later said he was wanted on a murder warrant in connection with the death of Armando Vidana, 25.
Caballero is being held without bail at Pomona City Jail.
A 20-year-old man shot and killed his teenage girlfriend Friday night during a domestic dispute in Lincoln Heights before turning the gun on himself, police said
The shooting was reported about 8:30 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 2400 block of Daly Street. Police officers of LAPD's Hollenbeck Division found a teenage girl dead from a gunshot wound to the back of the head, said LAPD Officer Gregory Baek. She was identified by the LAPD as Maria Valderrama, 16.
A short time later, as police searched for the gunman, the 20-year-old man, identified by police as Juan Carlos Mendez, was found in a nearby alley with a gunshot wound to the chest area, Baek said.
"At some point, either at the scene or in the ambulance, he admitted to shooting the girl," Baek said.
Paramedics took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police said Mendez and Valderrama had been dating for two years and were involved in a dispute at the apartment when Mendez allegedly shot her. He then fled and shot himself nearby, Baek said.
An L.A. County prosecutor said his office decided to charge two teens accused of killing a Long Beach honors student as adults because of the "seriousness of the crime."
Deputy Dist. Atty. Dean Bengston told reporters outside a Long Beach court that the district attorney's office charges juveniles as adults only in "rare instances" but that they warranted in this case because of the nature of the shooting and because authorities believe it was gang-related.
"You have to look at the seriousness of the crime," he said.
Tom Love Vinson and Daivion Davis, identified by authorities as 16-year-old gang
members, were each charged with one count of murder and two counts of
attempted murder, according to the district
attorney's office.
Deputies shot and wounded a suspect tonight after a car chase in Azusa, authorities said.
The pursuit began about 8:30 p.m. and ended a short while later near Orkney Street in the unincorporated section of Azusa, a city of about 45,000 east of Los Angeles in the San Gabriel Valley, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies confronted the suspect on Orkney, the department said. Investigators are at the scene. No other details were available.
Long Beach police believe the fatal shooting of a Wilson High School honors students occurred when two rival groups of gang members at the school's homecoming dance got into a confrontation.
Two reputed gang members were arrested in connection with the shooting Friday night outside the Long Beach high school, and police said they are looking for other suspects.

Los Angeles police said today they have identified -- through DNA evidence -- a suspect in the 1997 murder of a mother and her mentally impaired son in North Hollywood.
Details are scheduled to be released at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Los Angeles Police Department's North Hollywood Division Station.
The newly analyzed evidence links the suspect to the stabbing deaths of Nancy Boehm, 57, and her son, Shawn Boehm, 23, according to police. The victims were found in their home by a family friend.
Both had multiple stab wounds and were found in separate bedrooms of the home in the 5700 block of Riverton Avenue, where they had lived for 20 years.

Long Beach police said they will announce an arrest this evening in connection with the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old Wilson High School student after the homecoming football game Friday night.
Melody Ross was with a group of students when she was shot about 10 p.m near Ximeno Avenue and 10th Street, police said. Two men, an 18-year-old and 20-year-old, ere wounded.
The announcement will be made at news conference scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Long Beach Police Department headquarters.
School officials in Santa Monica and Venice counseled grieving students today and were cautioned to be on alert for suspicious activity after two former students were slain in separate shootings Tuesday.
The two killings occurred several hours apart in Venice's Oakwood neighborhood and in the Pico neighborhood in Santa Monica.
Santa Monica police arrested and booked four people in connection with the shooting in that city. Sgt. Dave Hunscke, citing the ongoing investigation, declined to say what the suspects were booked on or whether the two killings were connected.
A man was shot and killed tonight near a park in Santa Monica, police said.
The shooting was reported at 8:58 p.m. near Pico Boulevard and 20th Street by Virginia Park, police said.
The victim "was just hanging out by the park," said Lt. Mohamed Marhaba of the Santa Monica Police Department.
The park is in the city's Pico neighborhood, which has been the scene of several gang-related shootings in recent years.
Police had set up a perimeter around the park and were searching for a suspect. One person was detained for questioning. "We don't know if he's a suspect," Marhaba said.
Details on the victim and the circumstances of the killing were not available tonight.
