Man suspected of sexual assault of unconscious woman in Oxnard

A 24-year-old Oxnard man was arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting an unconscious woman, police said Wednesday evening.

The victim consumed several alcoholic drinks at a nightclub before allegedly leaving with Hugo Alaniz, according to the Oxnard Police Department.

‘The victim passed out at an apartment and Alaniz proceeded to sexually assault the victim while she was unconscious,’ police said in a statement. ‘Witnesses intervened to stop Alaniz from further sexually assaulting the victim.’

Police said investigators are attempting to determine whether other women have been assaulted. Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Dale McAlpine at (805) 385-3921.

Alaniz was being held at the Ventura County jail Wednesday evening in lieu of $100,000 bail.
