More than two dozen emergency room patients at Mission Community Hospital in Panorama City were evacuated Sunday night because of a bomb scare that turned out to be false, police and hospital officials said.

A man walked into the hospital’s emergency department about 6:30 p.m. acting erratically, hospital officials said. He told staff members that he had a bomb and left a duffel bag inside the waiting room, according to LAPD Sgt. Francisca Wheeling. Authorities determined that the bag contained clothing.

About 30 patients were evacuated to another part of the hospital while authorities determined there was no bomb or threat, said Jim Theiring, the hospital’s chief executive. The patients were later returned to the emergency department.

The man, whose name was not released, was taken into custody and no one was hurt in the incident, authorities said.
