Driver, 21, suspected of DUI in crash that killed her passenger

A passenger in her 20s was killed Sunday in Garden Grove when the vehicle she was in collided with a telephone pole and struck a building, authorities said.

The victim was one of three occupants of a vehicle driven by a 21-year-old woman suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol, Garden Grove Police said in a statement.

The car was headed north on Brookhurst Street at about 3:30 a.m. when it ran off the road, hit a telephone pole and crashed into a building near Imperial Avenue, the statement said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and the other passenger were taken to a hospital.

No other information was given. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Investigator Adam Zmija at (714) 741-5847.
