Playboy Mansion possible 'swatting' target after 911 call
Los Angeles police were dispatched to the Playboy Mansion on Thursday morning after a report of an assault that officials said might be another "swatting" incident.
Officers went to Hugh Hefner's Holmby Hills mansion after the call was received about 7 a.m., the LAPD said. Television footage showed several officers walking the mansion's grounds.
About an hour after the call was made, LAPD spokesman Richard French said the residents "have stated everything was fine" and there were no immediate indications an assault had occurred. An officer at the department's West Los Angeles station confirmed officers had found no signs of an assault.
"It could be one of those swatting calls," French said.
There has been a recent rash of such calls, hoax 911 calls reporting fake crimes at celebrities' homes, so called because they might result in SWAT teams being called in.
Victims in recent months include Ashton Kutcher, Justin Bieber and Simon Cowell. Earlier this month, a 12-year-old was charged with making 911 calls and reporting fake crimes to police, sending them to Kutcher's home and a Wells Fargo Bank branch.
Law enforcement officials have said that swatting is a problem because it diverts resources from real calls.
