Riverside County Sheriff’s Department detectives are investigating a set of skeletal remains found in the San Jacinto foothills south of the town of Cabazon.

A hiker found the human bones Feb. 19 in the hills behind the 51000 block of Ida Avenue and was able to lead sheriff’s deputies to the remote site later in that day. The bones were found south of Interstate 10 at an elevation of about 1,500 feet. Coroner’s investigators positively identified the remains as human.
