High-speed pursuit tops 125 mph, narrowly missing children

A man wanted by police led them on a high-speed chase in the Florence-Firestone area Tuesday, at times going more than 125 mph.

[Updated 1:10 p.m. Feb. 26: The chase ended with one person arrested and police searching for a second person.]

Police chased the Lexus sedan from San Bernardino County into South L.A. The driver exited the 105 Freeway and then drove on surface streets.

TV footage showed the driver swerving around cars and at one point narrowly missing a boy on a skateboard, a girl in a pink jacket and pedestrians crossing a street with groceries.

Authorities said the pursuit topped 125 mph on the 105 Freeway.

CHP Officer Ed Jacobs said the vehicle contained burglary suspects wanted in San Bernardino. A CHP airship was following overhead. They got a call about the chase at 12:09 p.m.
