High school student sentenced to 140 days in jail for bomb threat

A Huntington Beach High School student was sentenced Thursday for leaving a bomb threat note inside a classroom.
Christopher Michael Casey, 18, of Huntington Beach, was sentenced to 140 days in jail and six years of probation and is ordered to stay at least 200 yards away from the school.
His original charge was a felony, but Judge John Ngo Nguyen reduced the crime to a misdemeanor, according to Deputy Dist. Atty. Andrew Katz.
According to Katz, Nguyen felt sorry for Casey after the defense attorney said their client was about to turn 18 at the time and charging him with a felony would follow him for the rest of his life.
Casey left a note on his teacher’s desk about noon Dec. 14, stating that a bomb was hidden inside the high school and was set to detonate at an unspecific time.
A school secretary found the note about 12:55 p.m. and told the principal. Huntington Beach police arrested Casey the same day.
Police did not find any explosives on the campus.
