Three female pedestrians in Anaheim killed by alleged drunk driver

Three female pedestrians were struck and killed on an Anaheim street by an alleged drunk driver late Saturday, police said.

The driver of a Honda Civic hit the women about 11 p.m. Saturday in the 100 block of South Western Avenue, Anaheim police Sgt. Bob Dunn said.

One of the pedestrians died at the scene, Dunn said. The other two women were transported to a local hospital, where they died, he said.

The names of the three women have not been released, but that one was in her 50s and the other two were in their 20s, Dunn said.

The male driver, who was later arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, had a female passenger in the Honda Civic, Dunn said. The driver had non-life-threatening injuries in the crash, Dunn said.

Authorities said the driver could face additional charges.

In an unrelated incident Saturday on the edge of West Puente Valley, an 81-year-old male pedestrian was struck and killed as he was crossing the street.

Authorities said Silva Santos of La Puente was struck by a driver traveling about 30 to 35 miles per hour near Amar Road and Sunset Avenue about 7:20 p.m.

An official with the Los Angeles County coroner’s office said Santos, who was not in a designated crosswalk, was thrown about 30 feet because of the impact.

The driver was not immediately arrested on suspicion of any crimes, authorities said.
