A baby seal wandered into a busy intersection of Carson on Sunday, causing a brief panic by a motorist who swerved to avoid it, authorities said.

The motorist called police shortly before midnight and sheriff’s deputies found the seal on the corner of Avalon Boulevard and Dominguez Street, near Dominguez Channel, said Lt. Chris Bergner.

After corralling the uninjured seal, it was taken by Marine Animal Rescue, where specialists planned to evaluate and then release the animal.
