8-year-old accidentally shoots man in the head, authorities say

An 8-year-old boy found a loaded gun in a Riverside County home and accidentally shot a man in the head who was one floor below, authorities said.

The boy found the .45-caliber semiautomatic gun in a dresser drawer in the home in the 7000 block of Elm Grove in Eastvale on Saturday, authorities said.

"The juvenile fired one round into the floor, which penetrated the floor and struck the victim, who was sitting downstairs at the kitchen table, on the top of the head." according to a news release from the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s office.

The victim was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive.

Carlos Serafilo, who authorities said owned the firearm, "was arrested for negligently maintaining a firearm accessible to a minor," authorities said in the news release.
