5-year-old boy dies when car slams into tree; driver held

A 5-year-old boy died in this area in Inglewood
A 5-year-old boy died after the vehicle he was in slammed at a high speed into a tree on an Inglewood street, police said Wednesday night, and the driver was arrested.

The child was ejected from the vehicle after the accident late Wednesday night at Prairie and Grace avenues.

Television news footage showed the crumpled car wrapped around the tree.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of speeding, Sgt. Bryan Hand of the Inglewood Police Department told The Times. The driver’s name was not released.

Investigators were at the scene gathering evidence. No other details were immediately available.
