Young woman shot to death in Laguna Niguel

One person was being held by authorities Friday in connection with the shooting death of a young woman at an apartment complex in Laguna Niguel.

The shooting happened around 1:25 a.m. in the 30000 block of Pacific Island Drive, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

The victim -- said to be 24 years old -- was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead, KTLA reported.

Deputies detained one person in connection with the shooting. That person's relationship to the victim remained unclear.
