A Laguna Niguel woman who was shot and killed early Friday morning at an apartment complex has been identified as a 24-year-old dental assistant, authorities said.

At 1:25 a.m., a man called authorities to report that his wife had been shot.

Deputies were dispatched to the 30000 block of Pacific Island Drive in the upscale community and administered CPR at the scene, said Lt. Joel Balicki with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

“The subject stated that he had shot his wife,” Balicki said. “As far as the cause of why, that’s all under investigation.”

The woman, identified as Johanah Wade, 24, was transported to Mission Hospital, where she died, said Jim Amormino, a spokesman with the department.

Amormino said there is not a history of domestic violence calls to the residence and deputies are still investigating the cause of the incident.

The 25-year-old man involved in the incident has been questioned and released.

“He’s still a person of interest,” Amormino said.
