Third man charged in Christmas Day killing of Pasadena youth coach

Victor McClintonA third man was charged Wednesday in connection with the Christmas Day drive-by shooting that killed an L.A. County Sheriff’s employee who was a popular youth sports coach.

Jerron Donald Harris, 25, of Pasadena was charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder in the death of 49-year-old Victor McClinton, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Harris also faces two counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon. Harris, who authorities say is an active gang member, was scheduled to be arraigned on the charges Wednesday afternoon, according to prosecutors.

He was arrested Jan. 5 by Pasadena police, county sheriff's deputies and U.S. marshals at a hotel in Gardena, officials said. Harris also has a prior felony conviction for making criminal threats in San Bernardino County, said Pasadena police Lt. Tracey Ibarra.

Harris is one of two alleged shooters who killed McClinton and injured another man -- an alleged gang member who police believe was the target of the shooting, Ibarra said.

McClinton was outside his home about 11 a.m. on Newport Avenue and Wyoming Street when he was caught in the crossfire, according to police.

The other alleged shooter is Larry Darnell Bishop Jr., 20, of Pasadena, who was charged with murder, attempted murder and similar weapons violations.

The murder charges for Bishop and Harris include the special circumstances of discharging a firearm from a motor vehicle and committing murder to further a criminal street gang. Prosecutors have not said whether they will seek the death penalty for Harris or Bishop.

Gary Aurthur Davis, 20, has been charged as an accessory to the crime.
