South Bay church leader charged with molesting 4-year-old girl

Torrance police Wednesday were looking for possible victims of a church worship leader charged with molesting a 4-year-old girl.

Jose Mendez Vasquez, 67, worked at several South Bay churches that serve Spanish-speaking congregations, the Torrance Police Department said.

He was arrested last week and charged with multiple counts of child molestation stemming from an incident that allegedly took place in 2008. He is accused of molesting the girl outside his Torrance home, police said in a statement.

Detectives believe that Vasquez may have been in contact with minors at the churches, police said.
