A 19-year-old man was sentenced Friday to 77 years to life in prison for killing a pizza deliveryman in Silver Lake.

Jose Beltran was convicted in September of the second-degree murder of Juan Vazquez, 25, and the attempted murder of two of his friends, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

He was sentenced by Judge Clifford Klein, who called the August 2011 slaying “a callous killing.”

Vazquez was driving two co-workers home from work about 5 a.m. when he was shot in the 1400 block of Silver Lake Boulevard, prosecutors said. The two men who were riding in the car spoke at the sentencing through a Spanish interpreter.

“His mother has so much pain,” Luis Lopez said, according to a statement from prosecutors. “[Beltran] should be locked up.”

When police arrived at the shooting site, Vazquez was in the car with several gunshot wounds, including one in the head. He was declared brain-dead two days later and remained on life support until Aug. 14, 2011, according to the L.A. Times’ Homicide Report.
