San Diego police officer shoots, wounds domestic violence suspect

A San Diego police officer shot a male suspect in a domestic violence incident during a confrontation Friday night in a Mira Mesa neighborhood.

Police had responded to a call from a woman who said she was being attacked by her husband, said Lt. Jorge Duran of the San Diego Police Department.

The woman also said he was threatening to attack any police officer who sought to intervene, Duran said.

When officers arrived on the scene, the suspect refused commands to drop what appeared to be a weapon in his hand, Duran said.

“When a Taser did not work, the man advanced on officers in a threatening manner,” he said.

The suspect was shot by an officer described as a 12-year-veteran and taken to a hospital with what were described as non-life-threatening wounds.

The object in his hands proved to be a large rock, Duran said.
