Rescuers find diver reported missing off Santa Monica Beach

Rescuers found a a 32-year-old diver Tuesday evening after he had been reported missing off the Santa Monica Pier.

The diver was reported missing about 4 p.m. by Los Angeles County lifeguards, who alerted the U.S. Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard scrambled a 45-foot response boat out of San Pedro and a rescue helicopter, Petty Officer Adam Eggers told The Times.

The man was recovered by a county life guard vessel and was being taken to Marina del Rey, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.

Eggers said it was unclear whether the diver was snorkeling or using scuba gear.
