Parents held after 7-year-old girl ingests meth, suffers seizures

The parents of a 7-year-old girl were arrested on suspicion of felony child endangerment after the child ingested methamphetamine and became critically ill, authorities said Tuesday.

The girl suffered seizures and other symptoms and was rushed by an ambulance from her home in Joshua Tree to Loma Linda University Medical Center, authorities said.

The girl was in critical condition but was improving. She swallowed the drug because she thought it was candy, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. 

Hospital personnel discovered meth in the girl's system after they gave her a urine test, authorities said.

Parents Johnnie Koranda, 32, and Michelle Beamer, 30, were booked into the San Bernardino County Jail. Koranda and Beamer have three other minor children who were taken by county social service workers, the department said.
