Two officers patrolling the 200 block of North Maxine Street noticed a man alone in the back seat of a white car, said Cpl. Anthony Bertagna with the Santa Ana Police Department.

Officers were approaching the vehicle when the man moved from the back seat to the front, started the car and began to drive toward the officers, Bertagna said.

The man did not respond to police orders, leading to the shooting, authorities said. The man was shot in the upper torso.

Paramedics responded to the scene, where the man was pronounced dead. The man’s identity has not been released.
