An off-duty Los Angeles Police Department officer was involved in a shooting Friday night in southwest Los Angeles, authorities said.

The incident occurred in the 3900 block of Westside Avenue. It involved a car and a pedestrian, but no further details were immediately available, said LAPD Officer Cleon Joseph.

It is not clear why the shooting took place, but the person who was shot is alive, Joseph said.

“We can’t confirm anything else at this point,” he said. “We’re waiting to hear more.”
