Two killed, three injured in Sacramento New Year’s Eve shooting

An argument in an Old Town bar in Sacramento on New Year’s Eve ended with the fatal shooting of a reveler and a bar employee, authorities said.

The incident, which occurred about 9:40 p.m. inside the bar at the corner of 2nd and K streets, left three others injured, Sacramento police said in a prepared statement. A male employee in his 20s, who tried to break up the fight, and a 35-year-old man died at the scene, police said.

Once the shooter opened fire, an armed security guard staked out at the bar’s side door confronted him and the two exchanged gunfire, police said.

The armed suspect, an unidentified 22-year-old man, ran out of the bar but was immediately taken into custody and hospitalized for gunshot wounds, police said. The security guard and an unidentified woman were also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
