Man shot, killed near Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach

A man was shot and killed at a medical building near Hoag Hospital, Newport Beach police said Monday afternoon.

A gunman shot one person, and there was no information available about the victim’s identity or relationship to the suspect, according to Newport Beach Police Department spokeswoman Kathy Lowe. ABC-TV Channel 7 reported that the victim was a doctor.

Police received a call about 2:45 p.m. of six to seven shots fired at 520 Superior Ave., according to Lowe.

That address is affiliated with Newport Health Center, which provides outpatient medical services for Hoag Hospital, according to the hospital’s website.

The suspect is in custody, Lowe said.
