Man killed in head-on crash near Canyon Country, CHP says

A 52-year-old man was killed Saturday evening when his pickup hit another truck head-on northeast of Canyon Country, authorities said.

The man was driving south on Sierra Highway near Davenport Road about 5:40 p.m. when he veered to the left and crossed the center line into the path of an oncoming pickup, according to the California Highway Patrol. Neither truck was able to stop in time and the two crashed.

The driver of the southbound truck died of his injuries at the scene, according to the CHP. His name has not been released by authorities, who said he lived in Agua Dulce.

A 58-year-old male passenger, also from Agua Dulce, and the driver of the second truck, a 52-year-old Canyon Country man, were taken to hospitals with injuries described as major. Their conditions were not known Sunday.

The CHP said it was unclear what caused the pickup to cross the center line.
