Man killed by deputies in unincorporated Whittier

Map shows officer-involved homcides reported in L.A. County.
Sheriff's Department homicide detectives Thursday night were investigating a deputy-involved shooting that left a man dead in incorporated Whittier.

No deputies were injured in the shooting, which was reported about 4:15 Thursday near Morrow Avenue and Hollobrook Street, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

The victim was identified as an adult male. His name was not released.

It was not immediately clear what sparked the confrontation or whether the victim was armed. 

Since 2007, at least 238 officer-involved homicides have been reported in Los Angeles County, according to a Times Homicide Report database.
