Long Beach police are investigating the death of a man found shot inside a residence Tuesday, they said.

Officers were called to the 1000 block of Gaviota Avenue shortly after 3 a.m. to assist the Long Beach Fire Department with a report of a "person down," the Long Beach Police Department said.

The victim, described only as a man with a gunshot wound to his upper body, was declared dead at the scene.

Police said investigators were treating the case as a homicide, but had no information about a suspect or motive. The victim's name had not yet been released by authorities.

Authorities ask anyone with information to call detectives at (562) 570-7244. Tips can also be made anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
