La Cienega shut down in both directions after roadway buckles

La Cienega shut down in Baldwin Hills area after the road buckles.
La Cienega Boulevard in the Baldwin Hills area was shut down in both directions Tuesday night after a motorcycle officer discovered that the road was buckling.

The officer drove over a bump on the major north-sount artery near Rodeo Road and stopped to inspect.

"He saw some other gaps in the road, and that's when he called it in," said Officer Bruce Borihanh of the Los Angeles Police Department said.

He said La Cienega was closed between Rodeo Road and Slauson Boulevard while crews from the Department of Public Works inspect the damage. It was unclear how long the closure would remain in effect.
