El Cajon police officer shoots homeless man

An El Cajon police officer shot a man described as a transient Friday after a brief confrontation, police said.

The wounded man was taken to the hospital. The officer was not injured.

The circumstances behind the shooting, which took place near a used car lot in the San Diego County city, were not immediately available.
