Earthquake: 4.4 quake strikes near Markleeville

A shallow magnitude 4.4 earthquake was reported Thursday afternoon 13 miles from Markleeville , according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 3:25 p.m. Pacific time at a depth of 4.3 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 18 miles from Alpine Village , 19 miles from Dardanelle , 32 miles from South Lake Tahoe and 100 miles from Sacramento.

In the past 10 days, there has been one earthquake magnitude 3.0 and greater centered nearby.
