In this case, maybe a picture is worth a thousand words.

Ever since Charlie Sheen tweeted a photo of himself with Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa -- with the message: ‘From Boyle Heights 2 Mayor of LA .... Antonio Villaraigosa knows how to party!’ -- the mayor has tried to downplay his encounter with the hard-partying actor.

But Sheen challenged Villaraigosa’s statement -- made over the weekend in a lengthy televised interview -- that his night with the actor was little more than a brief snapshot, according to the gossip website TMZ.

‘We hung out for the better part of two hours, discussing his L.A. roots, his poignant bullet campaign as well as his 3 a.m. lawn-watering tactics,’ Sheen said.

‘He’s a terrific guy, a great mayor and he can drink with the best of ‘em: me,’ Sheen told TMZ. ‘Quite a memorable night indeed.’

On Tuesday, as Villaraigosa walked out of a meeting flanked by his security detail, through a City Hall corridor and into his office, he refused to talk about the encounter with Sheen.

‘I don’t have anything else to say about that,’ Villaraigosa said. He also ignored questions from reporters about the Cabo bash as he walked into a news conference Tuesday morning celebrating progress on a new downtown museum being developed by billionaire Eli Broad.

Villaraigosa’s office also declined comment.

In the interview with KNBC-Channel 4 reporter’s Conan Nolan, Villaraigosa said he wasn’t in Cabo San Lucas for the opening of the bar that Sheen owns, but for the hotel where the bar is located.

‘I had a three-minute conversation,’ Villaraigosa told Nolan. ‘I took a picture with him. I’m in the picture-taking business. I take a picture virtually every single day, 50 times.’

When Nolan told Villaraigosa that he must have known the ramifications of being photographed with the notorious party boy, he said, ‘No, you know what, I have never said no to anyone who wanted to take a picture.’

Sheen could not immediately be reached for comment.
